What we do
At Engage, we promote, teach, coach and support the use of restorative principles, practices, and processes both as a proactive way to build healthy, productive communities and as a way to resolve situations where harm has been caused. Restorative practices are an effective approach to building positive relationships, reducing conflict, increasing achievement and productivity with children, youth, and adults in a variety of settings, including schools, teams, clubs, businesses and agencies.
We approach each situation as unique. In consultation with individuals and groups, we develop a plan that suits their organization and particular circumstances. Our services include professional development, workshops, coaching, facilitating and on-going support. Whether we use some or all of these services depends on what each organization requires.
Creating Restorative Cultures
We provide professional development for sectors that are interested in using restorative principles proactively, in everyday, non-conflict times, so that when an issue or situation arises, participants can resolve them quickly, ultimately reducing the likelihood of conflict occurring. The result is a culture where relationships are strengthened and people thrive. This workshop is suitable for schools, group homes, teams, churches, businesses and agencies.
Community Conferencing
When a specific incident or ongoing conflict has occurred, a restorative, Community Conferencing, is used. A Community Conference is a facilitated conversation between people who have been harmed, those who have caused harm and supporters of both. The conversation is an opportunity for participants to take responsibility, express how they have been affected by the situation and contribute to what they would like to see happen that would repair the harm that was caused. This process has been used successfully in cases ranging from grade one name-calling to homicide and a multitude of incidences in between.
Alberta’s School Act
Recent amendments to the School Act impacts students, parents, schools and school boards. We have particular expertise in the sections supporting welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments and can assist with revising policies and practice to align with these ‘new’ expectations.
Employee and Workplace Engagement
Employee engagement is critical to a positive work environment, which ultimately translates into greater profit and returns for businesses. Disengaged employees cost companies $350 billion per year in lost productivity, absenteeism and employee turnover. If you are concerned with your business culture, staff retention and employee engagement, please contact us for a consultation.
